what is grounding?

Grounding or Earthing means directly connecting the body to the Earth, removing electrical charge imbalances by transferring electrons between the body and the Earth's surface. This connection may help reduce inflammation, improve sleep, lower stress, support recovery, and promote a calmer, more balanced nervous system.

inflammation

and antioxidants

Modern life pulls us indoors, insulates us, wraps us in synthetic materials, and keeps us constantly connected to technology, leaving us disconnected from the Earth beneath our feet. This separation may contribute to a buildup of oxidative stress and inflammation over time. Inflammation has been recognized as a leading trigger of many chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, and cancer. Grounding helps restore this natural connection by allowing the body to absorb the Earth’s gentle electrical energy, which may help neutralize free radicals, reduce inflammation, and support a calmer, more balanced sense of well-being.

Grounding Shoes

Why They Matter

Most shoes disconnect you from the earth and restrict your feet. Groundz barefoot grounding shoes are built to do the opposite - helping your feet move as nature intended while keeping you connected to the Earth's natural energy. The result: better alignment, more strength, and a more grounded body with every step.

barefoot SHOES?

Barefoot shoes address many of the shortcomings of conventional footwear by prioritizing foot health, natural movement, and biomechanical efficiency. By allowing the foot to function as nature intended, barefoot shoes offer a more holistic approach to footwear that can benefit wearers in the long term.

Wide Toe Box

foot freedom

Barefoot shoes: Provide ample space for the toes to splay naturally, promoting balance, stability and proper alignment and reducing the risk of deformities.

Conventional shoes: Typically feature a tapered toe box, which can compress the toes, restrict movement, and lead to conditions like bunions and hammertoes.

beautiful sole

Flexible, Thin, Lightweight

Barefoot shoes: Designed to be lightweight and flexible, allowing for unrestricted movement and better biomechanical function. By allowing your feet to feel the texture and contours of the ground beneath you, these shoes can help improve proprioception - the body's awareness of its own position and movement - which can enhance athletic performance and reduce the risk of injury.

Conventional shoes: Often feature rigid soles and stiff materials that limit the foot's natural range of motion, reducing sensory input and proprioception. This lack of flexibility can lead to discomfort, reduced range of motion, and may contribute to issues such as foot pain, muscle stiffness, and joint strain, increasing the risk of trips or falls.

minimal

cushion & arch support

Barefoot shoes: Provide minimal cushioning and arch support, enabling natural foot movement, proper alignment, more muscle engagement, and enhanced sensory feedback from the ground. This can boost balance, stability, strength, posture, and overall foot function.

Conventional shoes: While abundant (and often excessive) shoe cushioning can provide immediate comfort, it can also dampen sensory feedback and weaken the muscles in the feet and lower legs over time, contributing to pain, injury, and issues like overpronation and plantar fasciitis.

zero drop

natural gait

Barefoot shoes: Have a flat or nearly flat “zero-drop” sole, which keeps your feet in a neutral position and aligns your body correctly. They promote a natural way of stepping, usually landing on the middle or front part of your foot. This helps reduce the risk of impact-related injuries to your feet, knees, hips, and back by absorbing the impact more evenly across your foot.

Conventional shoes: Usually have raised heels which can throw off your body's natural alignment, causing problems like tight calf muscles, stiff ankles, and back pain. They usually cause a “heel-first” walking or running style, which can send strong impact forces through your body and may lead to discomfort or injury.

Best purchase ever!

I'm in LUV with 'My Groundz'!! Honestly, the best shoe I've ever had on my feet. I ordered a 6, but it turned out to be too small. But, I returned them (squeaky clean), and asked for a size 7 to replace them... fingers crossed. Then, I quickly got my NEW pair today, ripped into the box, tied them just right, and have worn them the rest of the day... fits perfectly! I could not be happier with these tennis shoes. Oh, and did I mention how 'smart' they look? LUV the wide toe box, too! I can't wait to wear them outside, as I take my dog for a walk. When I can't go barefoot, I'll go 'Groundz.' Thank you, Groundz, for making such a superior product!!

Perfect fit and quality

Took a chance on these being a new brand to me to see if these would fit my 10W foot. It fits like a glove, love that no break in time. I put them on as soon as I got them , went grocery shopping. I forgot that I had them on- that's awesome. I wanted a "regular " looking sneaker to wear everyday to work and beyond that was grounding. Oh and super important too, zero drop. My knees thank you! I would love it if these were offered in more colors ( black and grey with a grey sole) . I got the grey/ white combo- very neutral.

Unlike Anything Else!

Your barefoot grounding shoes are unlike anything I have worn before. I was introduced to zero-drop footwear in 2021 and tried several brands, but I was still searching for the right sneaker while exploring barefoot sandals. I wanted to share my genuine gratitude. My BIOS arrived and I took them out on day one for an afternoon adventure. The next morning, I wore them for an 8-hour shift at Trader Joe’s, which involves constant movement on concrete - walking, lifting, climbing ladders, and standing at the register for long periods. By the end of the day, my feet and body felt amazing. I am truly impressed by the design, comfort, and quality of these sneakers. Thank you sincerely. I have been sharing my experience with friends, family, and coworkers, and was thrilled to receive a text this morning from my friend Kim, who just received her white AION sneakers - she is loving them too.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Barefoot / Minimalist Shoes - FAQ

Barefoot or minimalist shoes are designed to let your feet move as naturally as possible. They typically feature a thin, flexible sole, a wide toe box, and zero heel-to-toe drop to support natural foot alignment and movement.

Conventional shoes often have thick cushioning, elevated heels, and narrow toe boxes that restrict natural foot motion. Barefoot shoes address these issues by giving the toes space to spread, keeping the foot level with a zero-drop sole, and using flexible materials that allow natural movement and ground feel.

Barefoot shoes support natural movement by featuring a wide toe box, a zero-drop sole, and flexible construction. This design  provides sensory feedback from the ground and helps improve balance, posture, stability, and foot  strength,

For most people, yes - when introduced gradually. Because barefoot shoes engage muscles that may be underused, it is recommended to transition slowly and allow your feet time to adapt.

Yes. Barefoot shoes are designed to protect your feet from sharp objects and hot or cold surfaces while still allowing flexibility and ground feel. They balance protection with natural movement rather than heavy cushioning.

Grounding (Earthing) Shoes - FAQ

Grounding, also called earthing, is the practice of making direct physical contact with the Earth. This can happen naturally by walking barefoot on surfaces like grass, soil, sand, or concrete, allowing the body to connect with the Earth's natural electrical charge.

Many people practice grounding because they feel more relaxed, balanced, and connected when in direct contact with the Earth. Research suggests grounding may support the body's natural electrical balance and recovery processes, with potential effects on sleep quality and inflammation reduction.

The Earth has a subtle, negative electrical charge. When your body makes direct contact with it, electrons may transfer from the ground into the body. This is believed to help neutralize excess positive charge that can build up from modern lifestyles and synthetic environments.

Most conventional shoes have thick rubber or synthetic soles that block grounding. Grounding shoes are designed with conductive elements in the sole that allow contact with the Earth while still protecting your feet.

Grounding shoes are footwear designed to help connect your body to the Earth while you are wearing shoes.

They use conductive materials in the sole that allow the Earth’s natural electrical charge to pass through the shoe when you step on conductive surfaces like concrete, stone, soil, sand, or grounding mats. This lets you stay grounded while still protecting your feet.

Grounding shoes are most effective when walking outdoors on natural or conductive surfaces like concrete, stone, soil, or sand. Indoors, most floors are insulated, so grounding typically does not occur unless a grounding system is used.

Yes. Grounding shoes are safe for everyday use because they simply allow your body to share the same natural electrical potential as the Earth. The grounding process does not introduce electricity into the body - it gently equalizes charge, similar to walking barefoot on the ground.
